Colistin sulfate is a mixture of the sulfates of polypeptides produced by certain strains of Bacillus polymuxa var. colistinus or obtained by any other means. It is particularly used in the treatment of acute infections due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other serious Gram-negative infections, and promoting animals' growth.
