MinPlex® Forte Iron
The Stabilized Organic Iron for All Livestock Species

Role of Iron in Livestock
Iron has two primary functions in livestock, as constituent of pigment bearing proteins of hemoglobin of blood and myoglobin of muscles and as cofactor of electron transport chain like cytochrome oxidase, myeloperoxidase, catalase etc. Its deficiency results in anaemia, when animals appear listless with rough skin coat and hair, pale mucous membranes, poor feed intake and weight and diminished immunity. Most feed raw materials contain sufficient quantities of Iron, but in ferric form, which is not absorbed from intestine. A part of this ferric form is reduced under influence of gastric acidity, when it is bound by natural chelators like histidine, fructose or mucin, which is then absorbed by intestinal cells through nonspecific carrier proteins. Once entered the cell,
Iron is actively transported to blood forming organs. Iron absorption in intestine is hampered by bioinhibitors like oxalates, phytates, fibre, etc and often by certain interactions by other minerals. Excessive Iron is excreted in feces. The demand for Iron is high during rapid growth phase, pregnancy and lactation.
Insufficient levels in feed during pregnancy results in poor growth of fetus, often death or poor quality offspring. This is of significance in swine, which has a larger littler size. Inorganic salts of Iron are very poorly absorbed. Iron can be supplemented in both organic and inorganic forms.

Why Organic Iron
Inorganic supplementation of Iron as its salts has unreliable solubility and poor bioavailability of mineral. The need for a precise and reliable source was felt which resulted in evolution of organic forms of Iron. Of various forms available in the market, Iron chelates and complexes with amino acids have been proven as useful tools in Iron supplementation. Organic forms stable in various pH levels of the gut have been proven to offer highest bioavailability.
