Alimet Feed Supplement is an 88% active source of methionine activity. First introduced in 1979, Alimet has grown to become the preferred methionine source worldwide. In addition to proven performance, the growth of Alimet can be attributed to the many benefits it offers over dry sources of methionine:
Better Relative Performance During Heat Stress:
Alimet Feed Supplement is absorbed by the bird via simple diffusion without the use of energy. In contrast, d,l-methionine (DLM) is absorbed by an active transport mechanism across the intestinal membrane. This process requires energy, releasing heat that the bird must dissipate.
Recent research has shown the DLM absorption is less efficient in birds exposed to heat stress. In vitro analysis has demonstrated that heat stress alters both the mechanism and rate of DLM absorption.
Alimet absorption is unaffected under heat stress conditions.
The net result is better methionine availability for growth and development.
Practical trials at Novus confirmed the heat stress performance of Alimet Feed Supplement over DLM. Customer feed trails have also demonstrated the benefits in broilers, turkeys and commercial layers.
Reduced Storage & Labor Cost with Reduced Product Loss:
Reduced Storage Costs:
Alimet Feed Supplement saves you storage space, thus reducing your cost for storage. Whether the tank is located inside or outside the mill, valuable warehouse space is more efficiently utilized, making space for other ingredients.
Decreased Labor Expense:
Alimet Feed Supplement customers simply never "handle" the product. There are no bags to unload, move, dispose of, or store. The dust associated with powder is eliminated.
Reduced Product Loss:
The closed application system for Alimet Feed Supplement, from truck to storage tank, and into the mixer, virtually eliminates product loss. There is no product lost during unloading, no airborne dust, and no product residue left in bags. The additional step of loading product into the micro ingredient system and/or the handling of bags is completely eliminated.
Improved Mixing and Decreased Segregation:
Alimet Feed Supplement mixes readily and thoroughly in the feed mixer and is absorbed by the feed particles, becoming inseparable from the feed mix. Powder methionine sources tend to separate from the feed over time.
Alimet Feed Supplement mixes better and stays mixed to the pelleter, or to the feed trough in the case of mash feeds. Extensive testing at Kansas State University, summarized below, clearly demonstrates that Alimet mixes better than DLM powder. Alimet was closer to expected than DLM powder in all three stages if the mix cycle. In addition less product was lost in the fines.
A Cleaner, Safer Mill Environment:
Powder sources of methionine can account for up to one third of airborne dust in a typical poultry feed mill. Any puncturing of bags or excess movement of the product can cause product loss and subsequently dust. Alimet Feed Supplement is stored and applied through a closed liquid system, which eliminates the airborne dust attributed to powder forms of methionine. The result is a cleaner, safer mill environment for your employees.
Reliable Delivery System:
Novus' liquid handling systems are accurate and dependable. With more than 800 systems installed around the world, and over a decade of liquid handling experience, Novus has a system to fit your operation.
Alimet Feed Supplement also offers distinct advantages over other liquid as well as dry methionine supplements:
Reduced Power Consumption:
Because Alimet is readily adsorbed onto the surface of dry feed ingredients, it functions as a pellet lubricant. That means less power is needed during the pelleting process, resulting in significant energy cost savings.
Numerous commercial mill studies have shown that the power required per ton of pelleted poultry feed is reduced an average of 12.5% when Alimet is used. This holds true even when comparing Alimet to liquid DLM.
Check with state and local agencies to determine additional incentives that may be available to your operation. Utility companies in some localities have recognized the energy savings benefits of liquid Alimet, and your operation may qualify for these financial incentives as an Alimet user.
Increased Pellet Production:
In the same commercial tests cited above, results showed that the rate of pellet production was increased 5.3% using Alimet. This appeared to be the direct result of the lubricating characteristics of Alimet vs. Dry d,l-methionine.
In mills where pelleting is the rate-limiting step in the feed process, the use of Alimet may:
Allow increased feed production without additional capital expenditure
Result in reduced variable costs due to shorter operating hours for the mill
More Concentrated Than Liquid DLM Sources
Alimet Feed Supplement contains 88% methionine activity, with virtually no wasted weight. You receive all the benefits of liquid without giving up high nutrient density.
Liquid DLM contains 54% water, 6% sodium, and 40% methionine activity. This low level of relative activity means water takes the place of valuable energy and protein components in the feed, reducing your nutrient density.
Better Compatibility:
Alimet feed supplement is compatible with animal fats, vitamins and minerals, other amino acids, and mold inhibitors. Liquid DLM is not compatible with animal fats, which could cause handling problems due to foaming when the two ingredients are combined.
Mold Inhibition:
Alimet Feed Supplement also enhances the action of commercial mold inhibitors by lowering the pH of the feed. This could reduce your cost on mold inhibition and help protect your feed. Liquid DLM is caustic and raises the pH of the feed. This reduces the effectiveness of commercial mold inhibitors, raising the cost or protecting your feed.
